Today, we invite you on a local adventure through green spaces and historic sites in the heart of downtown Santiago. Our journey will encompass parks, modern neighborhoods, and a taste of the vibrant culture of Santiago's residents. This memorable afternoon will delve into the city's rich history, dynamic culture, and distinctive architecture, reflecting its evolution since colonization.
We will pick you up from your hotel around 8:00 AM or 2:30 PM to embark on our adventure, heading straight to Santiago's historic center.
Our journey begins with a short 5 to 10-minute walk to Cerro Santa Lucía. This green oasis in the city's core offers a refreshing escape from the urban rush. Every corner tells a story from pre-Columbian times, and nestled within this lovely site is the Hidalgo Castle, a 19th-century fortress featuring neoclassical architecture. The cobblestone paths lead to its main attractions: terraces, viewpoints, and gardens offering breathtaking views of Santiago and the Andes, along with fountains and sculptures like the Neptune Fountain and Plaza de la Victoria.
Next, we will venture to the delightful Lastarria Neighborhood, renowned for its bohemian ambiance, cobblestone streets, and charming cafes, along with art and culture shops. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll and exploration.
Our tour continues to Plaza de Armas, the founding point of Chile, also known as kilometer 0. It serves as the historic heart of Santiago. Here, you’ll encounter the Metropolitan Cathedral and other historic buildings surrounding the square, including the City Hall, the Post Office, and the History Museum.
We will then move on to the significant Civic District, home to major governmental and cultural institutions like the La Moneda Palace, the presidential seat of Chile and a key historical and political landmark. The building is famous for its elegant facade and its historical significance during the 1973 military coup. While interior access may be limited, the courtyards and gardens around it are a delight to visit. If timing permits, we might also witness the ceremonial changing of the guard at the presidential palace.
After exploring this picturesque area, we'll head to "Sanhattan", Santiago's most modern business district. Here, we'll marvel at the tallest building in South America, the expansive Vitacura parks, and the vibrant modernity of this bustling area.
