The 1st stop on our Hop On Hop Off journey is at Mall Parque Arauco, a premier shopping destination in Chile and Latin America. Established in 1982, it was Chile's first mall to combine major retail and entertainment. Today, it boasts a diverse range of dining and entertainment options, alongside national and international brands, and a Luxury District featuring Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, and more.
The 2nd stop takes you to the picturesque Bicentennial Park in Vitacura, the largest green space in the area, stretching along the south bank of the Mapocho River. Spanning 27 hectares, it offers playgrounds, sculptures, sports areas, lagoons, and more. Stroll along the paths and visit the two lagoons, home to black-necked swans, flamingos, herons, and fish.
The 3rd stop features the Santiago Cable Car, providing unparalleled panoramic views of the city. Begin at "Oasis Station" via the main entrance on Pedro de Valdivia. Ride the cable car for breathtaking 360-degree views, including the majestic Andes Mountains, amidst Chilean flora. Recognized as Santiago's top attraction, the cable car ascends to the "Cumbre Station" atop San Cristóbal Hill, home to the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception statue and Bellavista Terrace, renowned for city views and the traditional "Motes con huesillo" for a refreshing treat.
The 4th stop is the "Funicular" at Parquemet, Santiago's green lung. Known as "Cerro San Cristóbal," it's the largest cable car in Santiago and Latin America. Declared a "Historic Monument" in 2000, it stands out for its complex cable car system and heritage significance. The entrance at Pío Nono is a grand neoclassical castle designed by architect Luciano Kulczewski. Recently refurbished cars climb nearly 500 meters to San Cristóbal's summit. The intermediate station accesses the National Zoo, followed by "Estación Cumbre", connecting to the Bellavista Terrace, the Virgin Sanctuary, and the cable car.
The 5th stop is Santiago's Plaza de Armas, the city's historic core and kilometer 0. This captivating space merges colonial architecture with urban vibrancy. Encircled by the grand Metropolitan Cathedral and colorful structures like the Post Office, Santiago City Hall, and National History Museum, it serves as a cultural hub where history, local crafts, and the city's lively ambiance converge.
The 6th stop is Plaza de la Constitución in Santiago's Barrio Cívico. The square is surrounded by significant buildings and monuments linked to Chile's executive branch, and statues of notable political figures: Diego Portales, Pedro Aguirre Cerda, Jorge Alessandri, Eduardo Frei Montalva, and Salvador Allende. Other nearby landmarks include the Metropolitan Intendancy, Santiago Stock Exchange, Union Club, University of Chile, Paseo Bulnes, and Barrio Dieciocho.
